| The formula that is suppose to be behind any prison system designed for rehabilitation is rooted in the concept that a convicted felon through the system is made to realise the error of his/her ways, and then equipped to rejoin the society with no desire and need to re-embrace a life of crime.
In practise many prisons work hard to implement the above formula, while others simply prefer a time in prison to feel like a period of non-stop punishment rather than non-stop rehabilitation.
Another sad truth is the fact that most management personnel of prison systems are in one way or the other corrupt, which allow hardened criminals to remain in their hardened state and not even get a whiff of effective or sincere rehabilitation.
The other sad truth is that society makes it hard for a convicted felon to forget, or even leave his/her criminal past behind him/her. This in a lot of cases leads the rehabilitated individual into mental - illness, poverty, or the re-embrace of a life of crime.
The bottom line is society as a whole is part of the rehabilitation system, which means every time we as individuals hold back an opportunity of any kind from a fellow man/woman, we are refusing to give a fellow human being the benefit of a doubt. To do such is selfish, unfair, and immoral because every accomplishment of our lives exists because some one gave us a chance.
